Q1'2024, A Look at The Whale's

Investing Koala

The first quarter of 2024 presented a mixed picture for some of the world's leading companies. While Big Tech faced challenges, the finance sector showed signs of resilience. Let's swim into the specifics for Apple, and Goldman Sachs.

The Tech Giant, Apple,

Experienced a slight dip in its Q1 2024 earnings compared to the previous year. iPhone sales, were strong, did not meet the high expectations set in 2023. Analysts attribute this to market saturation and increased competition in the premium smartphone segment. However, Apple's services sector, which includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, and the App Store, continued to demonstrate robust growth, offsetting some of the decline in hardware sales, but unable to substain the year-on-year 4.4% decrease in revenue.

A Pillar of Banking, Goldman Sachs.

Yanking on the trend, Goldman Sachs reported a strong Q1 of 2024, which exceeded analyst expectations. The investment banking giant benefited from increased activity in mergers and acquisitions, as well as a resurgence in IPOs. Additionally, their wealth management division saw significant growth, driven by favorable market conditions and a reported positive ‘client engagement’.

Does Crude Oil Power Drone’s?

Iran produces more than 3 million barrels of oil each day to be exported, a major number, but not major enough for institutions to hold onto their positions of Crude Oil, lashing Brent Crude oil (USD/Bbl) to a Monday low of 88.82 from Friday’s high of 92.05.

Will sanctions be prompted due to the conflict arising? Will it be time for Iran to start depleting their oil reserves into their armada of drones? Time and diplomats will tell?
